EASY
TO MAKE BROWN BREAD

Here is a great recipe that Natalie loves to
have when she gets home for a visit ...
- 3/4 CUP LUKEWARM WATER
- 1 TSP. WHITE SUGAR
- 2 TBLS. FLEISCHMANN’S ACTIVE DRY YEAST
- 3/4 CUP MOLASSES
- 1 CUP ROLLED OATS
- 2 TSP. SALT
- 1 BEATON EGG
- 1 CUP BOILING WATER
- 1 CUP COLD WATER
- 2 TBLS. SHORTENING
- 6 1/2 CUPS FLOUR
- SET YEAST USING THE LUKEWARM WATER AND
SUGAR (about ten minutes)
- POUR MOLASSES, ROLLED OATS, SHORTENING,
EGG AND SALT IN LARGE MIXING BOWL.
- ADD THE BOILING WATER AND THE COLD
WATER.
- TEST AND IF LUKEWARM, ADD YEAST MISTURE.
- ADD FLOUR GRADUALLY.
- KNEAD WELL ON A FLOURED BOARD.
- PUT DOUGH BACK INTO THE BOWL, COVER WITH
A TOWL AND LET IT RAISE FOR ABOUT 40 MINUTES..(IN A WARM PLACE.)
- TAKE YOUR DOUGH AND SHAPE INTO LOAVES
AND PUT IN GREASED BREAD PANS.
- COVER WITH A TOWL AND LET RAISE FOR 1 &
A HALF HOURS.
- BAKE IN A 325 DEGREE OVEN FOR ABOUT 40
TO 50 MINUTES. MAKING SURE BREAD HAS A NICE MEDIUM BROWN COLOR TO IT.
- REMOVE FROM PANS AND BRUSH A BIT OF SOFT
BUTTER OVER THE TOP.
** NOTE: I SOMETIMES ADD 3/4 CUP OF RAISON’S
TO THE BATTER AND IT MAKES A GREAT RAISON BREAD.
